Bert E. Miller, CPA, CLU®, ChFC®
Managing Principal
There is no substitute for experience in the highly complex field of investment management and retirement planning, and Bert Miller has that wealth of experience.
Bert began his training more than thirty years ago, earning a bachelor's degree in accounting from Texas A&M University. His professional career began with what is now one of the remaining Big 4 multinational public accounting firms. Like so many others his age, Bert's career was put on hold for service in the U.S. Army and a tour in Vietnam.
Following what Bert refers to as his 19 month and 4 day military career, he resumed his chosen career and passed the rigorous exam to become a CPA. During the next four years, he had the opportunity to work on many assignments with public companies. This often resulted in interaction with senior executives and allowed Bert to see first hand the 1970's version of what he would later call "financial planning for the very wealthy". He was intrigued by the fact that few people at the time seemed to realize that these same philosophies should be of benefit to anyone, not just the very wealthy.
Bert left public accounting to join a client company and soon rose to the position of Vice President of Finance and Operations. From this vantage point he helped to define and deliver a management led buyout of the company. Several years later, Bert was recruited to the Pacific Northwest to join the finance and administration staff of a Fortune 1000 company. During his tenure, Bert once again had the opportunity to witness "financial planning for the very wealthy" and this time he became convinced that those same philosophies could be applied to anyone.
Having spent almost 15 years in financial, operations and administrative positions, Bert decided the time had come to plan for his own business. In 1983, following his vision and a concept based on faith, Bert was able to create a professional practice designed around the simple concept that when quality of service and consistency of performance came first, all else would follow.
Over the last 30+ years, Bert has become a well-known and much sought after speaker and teacher. He has taught classes for the University of Houston System and the North Harris Montgomery College District. Bert has also taught classes for employee groups of many of the Fortune 100 companies in the area.
For 26 years Bert worked as a consultant for the Houston Astros to provide financial planning and generic investment advice to the Astros Minor League Players. As part of this program, Bert visited Spring Training each year and provided educational presentations and discussions to players, coaches and staff.
Despite the firm's growth and overall success, Bert's personal practice remains his driving passion. Over the years, he has helped hundreds and hundreds of clients achieve and maintain financial independence.
A major focus of Bert's practice is working with retired people, those preparing to retire and those wanting to retire in the near future. Putting his own experience to work helping others is his mission, and he does it well.
